This course is designed for qualified reception teachers working in schools judged to be good or outstanding by Ofsted.

Observation, reflection and action are key tools of the intentional practitioner.
Our approach is based on observation and reflection and uses research tools (the Environment Rating Scales – ERS – and others) to provide an evidence-based framework for tuning into yourself and your children.
Effective professional development takes time: the course is designed with a gap between sessions to give you time to implement the approach for your children. You will need to make time to collect evidence, reflect, make changes, and evaluate impact. Effective change also takes time: we are aiming for deep rather than surface change. You will need to be proactive and work together as a team to try out new learning through the course and build on your existing good practice.
What you need to do before Day 1
? Plan a team meeting for after day 1 to enable you to involve the whole team from the start.
? Bring along a photo of your group/class

Refreshments will be provided throughout the course but please bring your own lunch.
By the end of the training participants will effectively use research tools to:
- develop quality in the Early Years Foundation Stage with lasting effect on child outcomes in later key stages;
- gain a deeper understanding of how children learn, and how to support that learning through a strong evidence-based adult role;
- establish and embed effective observation and assessment of children's development;
- develop an effective and sustainable self-evaluation and improvement cycle
- develop expertise for sustained improvement
- articulate and evidence best practice and progress to others, including Ofsted
